1. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard): focuses on sourcing and ethical production. A GOTS-certified product must contain at least 70% organic fibers.It tracks every single step. From organic farming (no toxic pesticides or GMOs) to the final stitch. Unlike many other labels, GOTS mandates fair labor practices, safe working conditions, and no child labor. It even regulates how water is treated at the factory before being released back into the environment.
2. OEKO-TEX Standard 100: The 'Skin-Safe' Specialist focuses on end-product safety and chemical residues. It tests everything the final garment—including threads, buttons, and zippers for over 1,000 harmful substances. As of 2025, OEKO-TEX has even stricter limits for endocrine disruptors like BPA.
One thing to notice is that a fabric doesn't have to be organic to be OEKO-TEX certified. It just means it is certified non-toxic and safe for your skin.
